Do I need a lawyer or other representative?

You do not need a representative in your IAA review, but you may appoint one if you wish. You should tell us immediately if you have a representative, by using form F2 – Appointment of Representative/Appointment of Authorised Recipient, available at Immigration Assessment Authority - Forms | Immigration Assessment Authority (iaa.gov.au).

I had a representative or authorised recipient before the Department of Home Affairs. Do I also need to tell the IAA that someone will represent me/be my authorised recipient?

The IAA is a separate body to the Department. If you wish to appoint someone to represent you or nominate an authorised recipient to receive correspondence on your behalf for your IAA review, you will need to let us know, even if you have already told the Department.  You can do this by completing form F2 – Appointment of Representative/Appointment of Authorised Recipient, available at Immigration Assessment Authority - Forms | Immigration Assessment Authority (iaa.gov.au).

My family and I have the same representative and/or authorised recipient. Do we need to provide an appointment form (F2) for each family member?

Yes. If you intend for the appointment of representative or authorised recipient to apply to all family members, then each family member will need to complete a separate form.  Parents or guardians should complete a form on behalf of any children under 18 years of age.

My case has been remitted to the IAA by the court. Do I need to tell the IAA that I have a representative or authorised recipient?

If you previously appointed a representative or authorised recipient for your IAA review, that person will continue to represent you or receive correspondence on your behalf unless you tell us otherwise. You do not need to complete another F2 form, but you should tell us if their contact details have changed.

If you appoint a new representative you should complete form F2 available at Immigration Assessment Authority - Forms | Immigration Assessment Authority (iaa.gov.au).

How do I withdraw or change my representative or authorised recipient?

If you have appointed somebody as your representative or authorised recipient but no longer wish that person to represent you or receive correspondence on your behalf, you can tell us by completing form F5 – Withdrawal of Authorised Recipient/Withdrawal of Representative.

If you wish to appoint a new representative or authorised recipient, you can do this by completing form F2 – Appointment of Representative/Appointment of Authorised Recipient.

These forms are available at Immigration Assessment Authority - Forms | Immigration Assessment Authority (iaa.gov.au).
