I made a combined application for a protection visa with other members of my family. Will our cases be considered together by the IAA?

Each person’s case is referred to the IAA separately, even where you have made a combined visa application. Each family member will have their own IAA case number.

Usually, if you have made a combined visa application with family members and the Department has made a combined decision, the IAA will consider your cases together. This may mean we provide one decision record (joint decision) for all family members.

If you do not wish us to make a joint decision, then you should contact us as soon as possible to request separate decisions.

My family and I have a representative or authorised recipient. Do we need to provide an appointment form for each family member?

Yes. If you intend for the appointment of representative or authorised recipient to apply to all family members, then each family member will need to complete a separate form.  Parents or guardians should complete a form on behalf of any child under 18 years.

I made a combined application for a protection visa with other members of my family. Do we need to provide a submission for each family member?

You can provide one submission that relates to all family members, or make separate submissions for some or all family members. Any submission you give to us should clearly identify which applicant or applicants it relates to.

I made a combined visa application with other members of my family. Can I provide a longer submission for my family’s application?

Each member of the family may make a 5 page submission.

My family have a combined visa application and we would like to submit new information. Do we have to submit a new information explanation for each family member?

You can provide a combined new information explanation or separate new information explanations for each applicant.  Your new information explanation should tell us which family members or claims it relates to.

I made a combined visa application but I have information that I do not want to share with my family. Can the IAA keep my information confidential?

If you want us to keep information you give us confidential from some family members, you should advise us of this in writing when submitting the information.
