The Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act) establishes an Information Publication Scheme for Australian Government agencies. The IPS requires agencies to publish a broad range of information on their websites.
Each agency must publish an agency plan and certain other required information. Agencies may also publish other information under the scheme.
Agency Plan
The IPS requires each agency to prepare and publish a plan showing what information the agency proposes to publish for the purposes of the IPS, how and to whom the agency proposes to publish that information and how the agency otherwise proposes to comply with the IPS.
Information the IAA must publish
The IPS also requires each agency to publish certain other kinds of information. Below are links to the information the IAA must publish:
Structure of the IAA
Who we are
Functions and Powers
Details of the functions and powers of the IAA. The IAA has published the following information in accordance with this requirement:
- What We Do – the role, legislation and powers of the IAA
Annual Reports
The purpose of the Annual Report is to inform the Attorney-General, the Parliament, Tribunal users and the general public about the performance of the AAT during the reporting period. The IAA is a separate office within the AAT's Migration and Refugee Division.
The AAT Annual Reports are available here.
Operational Information
Information the IAA uses to assist it in performing or exercising its functions or powers in making decisions or recommendations affecting members of the public. The IAA has published the following information in accordance with this requirement:
- Guidance & Forms – documents setting out operations and procedures of the IAA, and documents that guide the IAA in managing applications
Information routinely provided to Parliament
- Contracts list – there are currently no contracts to which the IAA is a party
- Indexed list of files – no files have been created in the current reporting period
Information routinely accessed through FOI requests and FOI Disclosure Log
The IAA must publish information about documents to which the IAA routinely gives access in response to requests under the FOI Act, except in certain cases. This is a requirement under the Information Publication Scheme.
Please note: Most FOI requests that we receive are made by review applicants in relation to their IAA files. Information released in relation to these requests are not required to be published.
Consultation Arrangements
Details of arrangements for users, other stakeholders and any interested members of the public to comment on current proposals for changes to our practices and procedures will be provided here. The IAA has no past or current consultations.
