The Australian Government provides a Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) for people who do not speak English or who require translation or interpreting assistance.

TIS is free to use if it relates to a government service or agency. To use TIS to contact the IAA during normal business hours, Monday-Friday 8.30am-5pm:

  1. Phone 131 450 from anywhere in Australia
  2. Tell the Operator the language you speak and they will connect you to a suitable interpreter
  3. Tell the Operator the telephone number of the IAA. The Operator will connect you and the interpreter to the IAA.

Telephone interpreting is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

TIS does not translate documents into English.   For further information, visit http://www.tisnational.gov.au/
