The IAA’s procedures are designed to be simple so that outcomes do not depend on whether a referred applicant has obtained professional advice or assistance. However, a referred applicant may wish to seek advice. The IAA does not endorse or recommend any service provider. Care should be taken, if considering obtaining advice or assistance, to determine whether someone is an Australian legal practitioner, a registered migration agent or is otherwise legally able to assist.

If seeking the assistance of a migration agent, the website of the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (www.mara.gov.au) has information about finding and using a migration agent, including information in various languages. The website also has information to determine whether a migration agent is registered with that authority.

Information about finding an Australian Legal Practitioner is available from the relevant State and Territory legal professional regulatory authorities listed below.
